Additional Funding for ETH47: NoVir Coodinator Ethris Receives €30 Million Financing under HERA Invest

Munich-based biotechnology company and NoVir coordinator Ethris GmbH has signed a financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (DG HERA) to support the further clinical development of mRNA-based products for pandemic preparedness and chronic respiratory diseases.

The €30 million financing is provided through the HERA Invest programme, which is funded by the EU4Health programme. HERA Invest supports research and development projects addressing the most pressing cross-border health threats. The financing will support the further development of Ethris’s therapeutic candidate ETH47, an mRNA-based nasal antiviral focusing on asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as ETH52 and ETH53, which focus on mucosal influenza vaccines and pandemic preparedness. ETH47 also takes centre stage within the NoVir project, which advances the development of the drug as a key component of pandemic preparedness.

The financing agreement was signed on 10 September at Ethris’ headquarters in Munich in the presence of representatives from the European Investment Bank and DG HERA. In their statements, Nicola Beer, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, and Laurent Muschel, Deputy Head of DG HERA, both highlighted the importance of the investment for European health innovation and pandemic preparedness. The NoVir consortium is delighted to see the EU demonstrate its strong confidence in the continued development of ETH47 through this additional funding.
